“Fuller, fuller…”

Antonio Lopez Garcia’s instructors told him “Fuller, fuller…” upon looking at his student work. This, is what I’m trying to do. The above shot is my studio space, with a still-life set up I’ve had going for quite some time now. I’m trying to take my work to the next level, and make the transition from student to professional artist. Lots of things are going to happen within the next three months. Updates will follow.
Portfolio
Here’s a portfolio I put together today. I still have most of these pieces, only a few have sold so far, which in this case was nice because I got to properly scan them. I tried to choose work of mine that showed consistent themes, artistic growth, individuality, and work that fits within my thoughts and practices of art. Just about all of these were done outside of school, on my own time in between my assignments for illustration.
Christmas 09

Christmas 2009. New Jersey. Looking forward to getting more drawings done in the next week and a half. Looking forward to finishing my last semester in Spring 2010. Looking forward to getting my BFA. Looking forward to spending time with my girlfriend again. Looking forward to applying to grad school. Looking forward to get started on a rather large painting in the next week. Looking forward to learning so much more. Looking forward to steak and wine. Looking forward to hearing more Buck 65. Looking forward to starting my Thesis paintings. Looking forward to sleep tonight/today. Looking forward to pushing myself even further.
stream.

I dislike the weather this time of year. Sometimes I wish I didn’t feel so at home on the east coast so I could enjoy some much warmer weather on the west. Why do people who travel sometimes only talk about their travels? I still haven’t bought ink for my printer. Opeth is really underrated. Really. My figure drawings are lacking a lot of something. Homemade portfolios are the way to go, and they’re tons of fun to make. Who knew? Silverpoint IS amazing. I would stop drawing skulls if I had something else that was as fun to look at. I like photography, but there aren’t many photographers whose work I enjoy. I need people to model for me. Final projects mean I only eat once a day, at random times. Figures I find a great way of working at the end of the semester. I wish I had a painting class right now. “Flower Duet” is incredible. ‘Bronson’ is a good movie. Dave McKean needs to finish his website. Please. Indirect painting is the best painting. Looking forward to the 23rd, after all- it’s tradition. Did you know that 50,000 people died last year on the highway? I’m trying to get more strict with myself about carrying around my sketchbook, but I have the urge to draw everything and I just don’t have the time. The Blues need to come back, with that wonderful, gritty feel they used to have. ‘Man Bites Dog’ is another good movie, maybe you should watch with caution though? I would create a CD cover for Ana Vidovic for free if she’d let me. Why are older cars so much more comfortable that newer cars? Watching ‘Inked’ and ‘Tattoo Highway’ on Hulu makes me want to tattoo people again, but reminds me how much stupid drama tattoo artists have. I really want to watch ‘Red Dragon’ again, not just for Norton, but for the eating of the Blake’s artwork. Jersey for two weeks, in a week and a half. Strathmore Series 500 Charcoal paper is incredible. Art.
some more sketchbook….
Mondays and Tuesdays are the best sketchbook days for me right now… Planning another painting in the sb as well.
This is a Jan Van Eyck master copy in red pencil. I could have pushed it further, but I think there is much more to be learned from painting a copy of his works rather than draw them. He is still one of the best ever. Few even come close to how amazing he was.
This is a mixed up page that includes the five minute quick sketch of a statue from the Cast Hall of the New York Academy of Art, some blurred out notes, and a new sketch I did today off of one of the “Children” sculptures of Antonio Lopez Garcia. He did this set of sculptures of heads of children and they’re amazing. I plan on doing another copy of one soon. (front view, with eyes wide open, so cool)
School is keeping me busy, lately the only art I get to do is in the sketchbook….
My Digital Portfolio
I’m a senior illustrator at PCAD, and as one of the assignments for our professional practices class we must make a small digital portfolio that can be sent to clients online. I put in a few of my illustrations I’ve completed for school and myself, as well as some of my first oil paintings.
Feel free to download a copy of it:
