the Quince Fetus…

finished another page in the sketchbook…. it takes a lot for me to upload sketchbook work to the website to be compared to my other, more finished, work. I only put work there when I feel I’ve learned something form the drawing or that I’ve reached a new goal. This one was me finaly understanding composition in the sketchbook and not being that nervous to write notes on the pages as well. I love when artists write in their sketchbooks, it adds another layer to them that images can’t always show. anyways- DaVinci mastercopy of one of his Fetus ink sketches, and a drawing of a Quince Tree (Garcia inspired the hell out of me)… also a little bit of Lars von Trier notes at the top… so good.

Trivium…

Trivium

This is my finish for an illustration assignment for school. concept art for a character called “Trivium”, a faceless demon. I’m growing away from illustration as a whole- but there are rare times when you get to put exactly what you want to draw into the projects, and for the longest time I’ve wanted to draw a dead bird. The classical cliche of that visual really appeals to me, and while I’d like to do a more academic study, this will have to do for the time being. I really got into this one by focusing on the wings. They were a lot of fun to render, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I drew them quite a bit more in my sketchbook….

DarkSideOfTheMoon

November First is Self-Portrait Day on www.conceptart.org. This was my contribution.
“Dark Side of the Moon”, 9×11.5, Graphite on Mylar

Called it Dark Side of the Moon because I was listening to Floyd the whole time, I was lit from one side only, and I drew the dark side of my head. (and my head is freakishly round, like a moon.) I set up two mirrors facing each other at 45 degree angles so when I looked into one, I saw my profile in the other. I’ve been doing self-portraits on and off now for almost a year, they’re just starting to look like me. It really is some of the best drawing practice an artist could ever do. You’re forced to try to see what you really look like, not what you think you look like, and it’s done from life. (and there’s no model fees.) It’s been a fun day so far…

rain.

I like rain, but hate it in the morning. Antichrist is an amazing movie, watch with caution though. but watch. I can’t stop doing mastercopies of DaVinci’s fetus drawings. Coffee is starting to make me feel tired when I drink it. Joel-Peter Witkin needs to make a new book that I can afford to buy. (a good one, with more than 12 pictures…). I’ve decided that seeing something with an artistic eye can also sort of be discribed as seeing abstractly. I still can’t afford ink for my printer. I’m happy pcad lets us print our school work there. I should switch to Tea. “Bad art is more tragically beautiful than good art because it documents human failure.” I think every artist is still a student. Sage Francis is still great. Time to put my battery back into my car.

first- check this guy out. http://danielochoa.com/, he’s awesome.

prepping lots of surfaces inbetween my school work. quit my job at the gas station to get some art done. drawing in my sketchbook from time to time. thumbnails are my new best friend, but i fear they may distract me from a finish. why does ink for my printer only last two weeks, but costs me $70 each time to replace? thinking of starting a long term fine art online project. really into silverpoint as a new drawing medium. “Dream of Light (quince tree of the sun)” makes me feel like going to Madrid and hanging out with Antonio Lopez Garcia… need to learn spanish. being broke isn’t bad once you get used it.
